Get anything good last weekend?

What kind of treasures did you find last weekend? We picked up a new OEM CD player from a 2006 Camry for $15 bucks and recent ones sold on ebay for $86, not bad!

We saw a vintage sterling silvber charm bracelet for $30 bucks but didnt have the cash to snag it there. When we came back from the ATM, someone else had gotten it! I think it would have fetched about $100 on eBay.

That was pretty much the extent of our findings last weekend. Seems like activity is picking back up. This weekend should be a good one!

Here's our find of the weekend, a board game from Rich Dad Poor Dad author Robert Kiyosaki called "Cashflow for Kids". Snagged it for $1, currently going for up to $75 on eBay. Posted pics of it in the blog:

RE: Get anything good last weekend?

Hi -

This past weekend was a neighboring city's community sale...and I shopped Thur and Fri 9-5 and still could have gone out on Sat if it weren't for my 3 kids getting ill.

I found Starbucks mugs that sell between 10 and 15 on ebay. (Hawaii and Washington D.C.)  I also found more childrens books to put into a lot.  I found romance books for .01 each - 75 of them.  That should show a little profit even though they are harelequins.

I got several paint by number paintings.  (Who knew?)

And tons more...gotta go take pictures and get onto Auctiva to list them all.

I hope ya'll got better than your video for the week showed.  LOL.  I've bought alot of duds too in the past.

RE: Get anything good last weekend?

Last weekend we picked up a ton of stuff, and thought most of it was going to do really well, but after looking it up, we are going to be lucky if we can make any profit. Mostly, its just mistakes we made, but we have learned. I now know all about what to look for with 78 RPM records, teddy bears, baskets, and to stay AWAY from beanie babies unless it is one of a handful of rarities (unlikely you will find at a garage sale) such as the dark blue "Peanut the elephant", which although not going for what it wonce did, still is commanding prices over $500 on ebay.

So tell us what you learned about the RPM's.  I see records all the time at garage sales and thrift stores but with the exception of 1 count them 1 title I don't know what to look for.

Oh - and did anyone see that paint by number painting with the rocket ship yesterday?  It started at 9.99 and ended at over 577!!!!

RE: Get anything good last weekend?

Hey GoodWillHunter,

Im glad you asked about the RPMs. With the old records you want to look for a few things. First, its key that the record itself is in good condition with no scratches (a few very minor ones are normal and it is very hard to find something in true mint condition) and the same thing goes for the cover jacket. Then, you want to look for old blues or jazz records (look for the "Black Patti" label in particular), as well as early rock 'n roll artists. Stay away from classical and easy listening. If you find one of these in the collection you are looking at, chances are good that the collection as a whole is a dud, because a person tends to have many of the same type of music in their collection. Also be on the lookout for Vogue brand picture discs. These will be obvious because the record will have a picture montage etched into it. Watch Episode #3 of the Weekend Treasure video to learn more about old records.

RE: Get anything good last weekend?

I found a Goebel Handpainted Mouthblown Christmas Ornament for a buck fifty.

There was one on ebay with (in my opinion) a bleah title that didn't sell for 9.95 - that didn't have its original box.  Mine does (and the price sticker says $30.00).

I think I can have a better title and sell mine for at LEAST 10.00.

I went out this morning--left my 2 kids home sleeping (they're 13 & 11).

Here's what I picked up:
Old cookie cutters w/ painted wood handles
(I'll save these up until i have about 10, then sell)
green artglass ashtray
green "Oysters & Pearls" depression glass dish
2 Danish design obilesks
set of old Noritake ceramic-handled flatware
Beaded Native-American fetish (I collect them)
(that's the thing w/ yard sale-ing, you discover so many cool things, then you end up looking for more and keeping & collecting them! I can't even tell you how many little collections I have around the Junque_House!)

Not a whole lot, but I was being picky--AND I trained my 13 yr old daughter to search eBay's completed listings when I call about an item from a yard sale! Smile~

Ah yes, its a good thing to have someone at home with their computer - I have called and avoided many a regret.

Also called to get addresses for estate sales that I lost the number for.
